NASA’s STEREO spacecraft presents spectacular solar movies from far side of Sun

STEREO Selects Gallery

We’ve found another very nice astrophysics website we thought we’d share with you – NASA’s STEREO mission website, which provides a far-side view of the Sun for the first time ever (the link is at the top of this article).  Their team have put together a collection of videos of solar prominences, flares and other unusual and just beautiful events that display the incredibly dynamic processes that take place in and on our local star, upon which all life on planet Earth depends.  It is awe-inspiring to see “high energy physics” happening right before your eyes on a tremendous scale, and to know that this extremely volatile object exists so close to us without destroying our planet is amazing.

Click on any of the images on these pages and you’ll be taken to a page where you can choose from several different formats of “movie” clips.
